about fitch hill design

A studio built on the belief that how your home feels matters as much as how it looks.

meet molly

Fitch Hill Design is led by Molly Loughney, a designer whose path to interior design started somewhere unexpected: a graphic design career in Los Angeles.

Molly graduated from Indiana University with a fine arts degree and spent years as a graphic designer in LA, working with film studios and entertainment clients. The work was demanding and detail-driven, and it set a standard early. Working at that level taught her what goes into high-caliber creative output and what it means to deliver work that holds up under scrutiny.

But on Saturdays, the TV was tuned to HGTV. Molly found herself drawn to how designers thought through spaces, how details came together, and what made a room feel considered rather than decorated. The interest grew quietly at first. She read everything she could find, especially the work of designers like Nate Berkus and Kelly Wearstler. It was Wearstler's backstory that clicked: she'd started as a graphic designer too.

The turning point came when Molly moved into her own apartment and designed it from scratch. Every detail was chosen with care, and the result was a space that felt completely like her. Friends noticed. One friend's brother hired her to furnish his apartment. It was a small project, but it confirmed something she already knew: creating spaces that feel right for the people who live in them wasn't just a hobby. It was the work she was meant to do.

how fitch hill started

After moving from LA to Arizona, Molly and her husband Chris took on a residential investment project together. Chris handled the construction. Molly handled the design. What was supposed to be a straightforward flip turned into something more: when the home hit the market, the response to the interiors was overwhelming. Neighbors came through. Friends of friends came through. The same question kept coming up: do you do this for other people?

The answer became yes.

Molly and Chris Loughney founded Fitch Hill Design in 2016. In the early years, Molly did everything: design, CAD, 3D rendering, purchasing, project coordination. Chris ran the construction side and the business operations. Together, they built the company from the ground up, learning as they went, refining their process, and getting better with every project.

Chris built the business foundation that allowed the studio to grow. He has since moved on to new ventures, and today Molly leads Fitch Hill Design as its sole principal. The construction knowledge from those early years still informs how Molly approaches every project. She thinks through how things come together from the very beginning, not just what they look like, but how they're built, how they function, and what's actually doable on a job site.

why fitch hill

When it came time to name the business, Molly and Chris wanted something meaningful. Chris grew up in Montville, Connecticut, on a street called Fitch Hill. There was an acorn tree in the front yard, and for Chris, it was the one place that always felt like home.

That feeling is what the studio is named for. Not a place, but what a place can make you feel. It's what we try to give every client: a home that feels like theirs.

how molly works

Molly is not the loudest designer in the room. She's the one listening. Clients consistently describe the experience of working with her as calm, grounded, and steady, even when the project isn't. Renovations are disruptive. Lead times change. Backorders happen. Molly's approach is to keep the process moving forward without the chaos that often comes with it.

She cares deeply about getting the outcome right. Not just aesthetically right, but right for the people who will live in the space. That means paying close attention to how her clients live, what matters to them, and what their home needs to do for their family. The design follows from there.

"Molly brought such a fresh and beautiful design element that showed us ideas for our space that we had never even thought of. She paid close attention to our style and what inspired us and gave us a design that was beyond our initial ideas and dreams." – Carla

The studio is intentionally small. Molly takes on a limited number of projects each year so she can be fully present in each one. That means real attention, not a revolving door of projects managed by junior staff. When you hire Fitch Hill Design, you work with Molly.
