interior design for new construction

Guiding every interior decision from first plans to move-in day.

Building a new home is one of the biggest investments you'll make. The interior design decisions that shape how it looks, feels, and functions deserve the same level of attention as the architecture itself. Fitch Hill Design provides full-service interior design for new construction projects across the greater Phoenix area, working alongside your architect and builder to bring a cohesive design vision to every room.

what we do on a new build

We join your project team early and stay involved through completion. Your architect designs the structure. Your builder constructs it. We design everything on the interior — the finishes, the fixtures, the millwork, the way each room feels and functions. Three disciplines, one cohesive vision.

Space Planning and Furniture Layouts

Working in collaboration with your architect, we lay out furniture on the floor plan to define how each room functions, what fits, and how spaces connect to one another. This work directly informs cabinetry layouts, built-in locations, and traffic flow.

Finish and Material Selections

Every surface in your home — flooring, tile, countertops, wall treatments, hardware — is selected with the full picture in mind. Each selection is made in context of the palette, the light, and the rooms around it.

Cabinetry and Millwork Design

Kitchen cabinetry, bathroom vanities, built-ins, closets, and any custom woodwork. We provide detailed design specifications and CAD installation drawings your builder or cabinet maker works from.

Decorative Lighting Selections

We select and specify all decorative light fixtures — pendants, chandeliers, sconces, and accent lighting — and determine their placement within each room. Your builder handles all coordination with the electrical trade based on our specifications.

Plumbing Fixture Selection

Faucets, showerheads, tub fillers, and hardware — selected for both form and function, specified in detail for your builder's team to install exactly as designed.

Detailed Documentation

Your builder receives a complete package: CAD installation drawings, finish schedules, and specification sheets. The builder distributes these to the appropriate trades. Clear documentation means fewer questions on site and fewer costly changes.

Furniture and Decor (When Included)

When the project includes furnishing the home, we handle full procurement — furniture, textiles, lighting, art, and accessories — and manage the entire process through installation. Furniture selections happen after the interior finishes are established, keeping decisions focused and clear.

how the process works

We Start with a Conversation

Before anything is designed, we need to understand how you live, what matters to you, and what your home needs to do. This begins with a brief introductory call to talk about your project and see whether we're a good fit for each other.

We Define the Scope

Once we understand the project, we put together a design agreement that outlines exactly what we'll do, what it costs, and how the engagement is structured. Our design fee is a flat rate based on the size and complexity of the project.

All Design Decisions Are Made Before Construction Begins

By the time your builder is ready to break ground, they have everything they need from us. Making decisions on paper is faster, less expensive, and leads to a far better result.

We Work Alongside Your Architect and Builder

Your architect designs the structure. Your builder constructs it. We design the interiors. Your builder coordinates all trades — we provide the documentation they need to do that well.

is this the right fit

Design to Build is for homeowners who are building a new home and want a designer involved from the beginning.

If you're looking for help with a single room or a few standalone selections, this isn't the right service. We work on the whole home because that's how the best results happen.

common questions about design to build

Do I need to have my architect and builder selected before we start?

Not necessarily. We can begin working with you during the planning phase and help you think through what to look for in your project team. We're happy to share referrals to architects and general contractors we've worked with and trust.

Does Fitch Hill Design manage the construction?

No. We are an interior design firm. Your builder manages the construction and coordinates all trades on site. We provide the design, the documentation, and the specifications they work from, and we communicate with your builder or their project manager throughout the process.

What about furniture and decor?

Furniture and decor is typically a later phase of the project, added as a separate scope in the design agreement. We plan every room with furniture in mind from the start, but the actual selections happen after the interior finishes are nailed down. When furniture is included, we handle everything from sourcing through installation.

How early in the process should I bring in an interior designer?

As early as possible. The most impactful interior design decisions happen during the planning phase, before framing starts. If we're involved early, we can inform furniture layouts, cabinetry design, lighting placement, and material choices that are difficult or expensive to change once construction is underway.

How much does this service cost?

Every project is scoped individually based on the size and complexity of the home. We charge a flat design fee that's established before the project starts. If anything falls outside the agreed scope, those additions are billed at our hourly rate after you approve them. We'll discuss budget openly during our initial conversation.
